Halliwell: Young woman found dead after reported ‘gas leak’

The reports came in at 5pm along with concerns about a gas leak and police, fire and ambulance services were all called to the property as well as Cadent gas.

Neighbours were evacuated as a precaution while checks were carried out.

Police have now confirmed a 28-year-old woman was found dead inside a property on Huxley Street and said the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Greater Manchester Police also confirmed that reports of a gas leak turned out to be ‘incorrect’ and there was no such leak.

Neighbours who were evacuated from their homes on Huxley Street were allowed back in after checks were made.

A spokesperson for GMP said: “Yesterday, Greater Manchester Police, alongside colleagues from NWAS and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, attended a property on Huxley Street in Bolton at 5.21pm following reports of a concern for welfare.

“Sadly, a 28-year-old woman died at the scene. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

“Reports of a suspected gas leak proved to be incorrect and neighbours who evacuated their homes have since returned.”

A fire service spokesperson said they were called out to a potential gas leak on Huxley Street, but that there was not anything for them to deal with. 

They added it was a police-led incident.

An eyewitness last night said: “Police, fire and ambulance service called to an incident on Huxley Street, Bolton.

“Scene quiet now, Cadent gas have arrived.”

Police have not revealed any further details about the woman.
